Before you go up
Teide is not just the summit.
The visit starts long before the cable car. The roads cross pine forests, recent lava flows and the great caldera of Las Cañadas. Even without going up to La Rambleta, the drive, the viewpoints and the lower trails are enough to fill a whole day.
The important decision is to separate three different experiences: driving through the park, taking the cable car and reaching the crater. Each one needs different timings, bookings and conditions.

The permit and the cable car are separate bookings. Coordinate the times, leaving a margin to board and walk.

To walk the Telesforo Bravo trail between La Rambleta and the crater you need authorisation. Official management is through Tenerife ON. The rules, the required equipment and the trails subject to control can change; always check the official status before setting out.

Can you visit Teide without the cable car?
Yes. You can drive through the National Park, visit viewpoints and do the lower trails. The cable car is just one way of getting to know the area.
Does the cable car ticket include the permit for the summit?
No. The ticket takes you to La Rambleta; access to the crater via the Telesforo Bravo trail requires a separate authorisation.
How much time do I need?
Allow at least half a day. A full day lets you make stops, walk and come down a different side.
What is the best time of day?
